REDUCE YOUR WASTE, LOWER YOUR FOOTPRINT
Snap up second-hand treasure this Buy Nothing New Month
This October, to celebrate Buy Nothing New Month, why not visit one of Council’s Treasure Troves and find a second-hand bargain? Whether you’re eager to find your next upcycle project or looking for an outfit that won’t break the bank, you’ll discover a wide array of ever-changing, unique treasures as you browse through aisles brimming with wonders.
Why choose to reuse?
Shopping second-hand isn’t just about finding something pre-loved and one-of-a-kind —it’s also about making an environmentally conscious decision to avoid buying brand new. Not only will you save money when compared to purchasing new, but you’ll also help prevent items from ending up in landfill, giving them a new lease on life.
Last year alone, 430 tonnes of items destined for landfill were saved thanks to donations to the Treasure Troves.
Time to go treasure hunting
From bric-a-brac to bicycles, the Treasure Troves are a haven for bargain hunters. Open every weekend from 8am to 4pm, you can stroll through rows of furniture, homewares, collectibles, books, children’s toys, hardware and sporting equipment at the Geebung and Acacia Ridge locations. Whether you’re looking for a new bike or dining set, you’re bound to leave with a fantastic find.
How do I donate to Council’s Treasure Troves?
Every household has a few items tucked away in the cupboard, unused but still useful! Give your quality goods a second life by donating them for free during your next visit to your local resource recovery centre. Simply head to the recycling area, where friendly staff will assist in assessing items for donation.
Before donating, we recommend checking that all items are clean, undamaged and in a quality, usable condition for resale.
By choosing to shop consciously or donate to the Treasure Troves, you’re not only saving valuable items from landfill but also saving money.
