Join @brisbanecitycouncil at Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre to celebrate World Environment Day from 10am-2pm next Wednesday 5 June.

Hear from local Brisbane authors about everything from reconnecting with nature to resilience through weather events, take guided walks through the wetlands and connect with local conservation groups to learn how you can make a difference.

There’ll be something for everyone at Council’s family-friendly event including free native plants, live music, wildlife displays and eco games for the kids.

Our team loves delivering Brisbane’s favourite sustainable living festival on behalf of @brisbanecitycouncil, but it literally takes a village to bring you this special event!

DIY bee hotel 🐝 You best bee-lieve your backyard will be buzzing if you try this DIY!

All you need is some bamboo sticks cut to various lengths, elastic bands, twine or string in any colour, fabric offcuts, wooden beads, and scissors to put this simple air bee’n’bee together in around 10 minutes.

If you don’t want to try this at home, come along to @brisbanecitycouncil’s @greenheartfair this Sunday and see the @sustainablebne team near the mainstage!

They’ll have all the materials to help you create a bee-autiful home for your pollinating pals.

The team at the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Zone will be busting all the biggest recycling myths and showing you some easy ways to live even more sustainably.

Discover how the Woods household received a $7 energy bill in the middle of summer! ☀️

Adam and Marina Wood of East Brisbane embraced the Brisbane Carbon Challenge with the goal of reducing their emissions while maintaining comfort and lifestyle. With smart investments and lifestyle changes, they achieved a remarkable 62% drop in carbon emissions!

⚡ Despite installing a pool, a notorious energy guzzler, they reduced their power bills and emissions and were rewarded with a mere $7 energy bill in December 2021! Thanks to installing a solar power system, purchasing GreenPower and changing their energy habits. They also trimmed emissions by ditching private rides for public transport, curbing food waste, and composting.

By taking all these simple actions at home, the Woods reduced their total household carbon emissions to just 3.3 tonnes, far below the Brisbane average of 11.5 tonnes.
